Novi Domi deco

Welcome to the NoviDomiDeco blog!

This blog will be used for musings about the wonderful world of blog decorating and general announcements regarding changes or improvements to NoviDomiDeco. For the time being, while the early adopter users find and deploy NoviDomiDeco on their sites, I’m going to use this space to tell the NoviDomiDeco story.

The inspiration for NoviDomiDeco goes back a while. I sat on this idea for several years. Personally, I like holiday decorations–especially Halloween and Christmas ones. At one point several years ago while I was posting material online, I mused about the possibility of decorating a Web site. The original concept even included the idea of scheduling the graphics in advance so that they’d turn themselves on before the holiday and off right afterward.

Through the years I’d add notes to the concept but basically, I was waiting for someone else to develop it. After several years of waiting, I gave up and began to design a Web site decoration system that would be easy to understand and use intermittently. I chose WordPress as the platform because of my experiences with their plug-in concept. They’ve developed an incredible content management system that is easily and infinitely extensible. During the Summer of 2009, I completed a comprehensive design document and found a developer to work with. We reached the proof of concept stage about a month later at the beginning of October. After studying the results of that work, I committed to develop a full version. Although I really wanted to have it ready for Halloween, at that point I was sure we’d be done for Christmas.

To be continued . . .
